I was ecstatic to find out that we were going to be moving onto video production. I’ve always wanted to learn how to edit & sync videos with audio because I have endless ideas for shortfilms and parodies.
I did turn this in after the due date, but I am so much happier at what I accomplished with that extra time. Not only did I further the quality of my project, but I also increased my knowledge and skills in video production ( for which i am grateful that I stuck with it). If I turned it in when it was due, I would not have pushed myself to learn these tools.

So a couple of the things I said in the video were actually ideas I was thinking of doing. “Five things wrong with The Battle of Five Armies” was a main runner-up/legit idea I was thinking of doing until I was told we had to shoot our own footage.  The main idea I wanted to do was actually the five headbands idea, that being a ripoff   reference to AFRO SAMURAI; the only issues why I didn’t do it was because I do not have more than two friends…..*sobs silently*…

For any of those curious on the backstory of the headbands, basically if you have The Number One Headband you’re immortal. No one can challenge #1 except the person who has The Number Two headband; with anyone being able to  challenge #2. So I was going to extend it to five headbands and well you get the idea. http://afrosamurai.wikia.com/wiki/Number_One_Headband

TL;DR – I struggled to execute the ideas I had, learned some new things and glad I stuck with it.

Things I learned how to do with this project:
-Fade Video in/out
– Syncing audio with video
– Adding reverb or “thinking effect” to the voice
– I learned some copyright laws and the extension o the creative commons license.

Issues that I encountered:
– Scaling/Framing/Cropping: Most of my footage did not match, my phone decided to live its own life and switch from Horizontal to Vertical point of view mid-recording, so I spent most of my time finding out how to fix that.
– Stabilizing Audio was a problem as always.

PARAFIVENORMA

This project was extremely difficult in my opinion, but I’m too dumb enough to come with a simpler concept of portraying what 5 means to me. The infinite of possibilities I could have done and so many easy ones I could have accomplished to save more time so I could use it to work on more important things.

Throughout this video the main character get’s paranoid of seeing and hearing the number 5 everywhere. Basically this video was supposed to be the main character was dreaming and then she wakes up from it, but ends with a plot twist of is she really still dreaming still? The story was only half finished due to time constraint and slight technical difficulties. In addition, I had always been drawing and visualizing in my mind how scenes should be played out, but doing it physically was way more difficult than what I originally thought. Being new to all this took at least 6 hours of doing the recording procedure in one day to only get 2 fine minutes of what I wanted. Although that shouldn’t matter, because the video would have been way past the 2 minute requirement for this project so I guess I’m happy in the end I met the criteria of the work.

Although at heart I feel empty that in a way my original plan was not finished and I tried so hard and been trying to get to that end goal, but I hope now that my next video recording will go more smoothly. Be it finishing it completely or finishing more progress with a lot less time consumed.

Waking up late and Wayyyy too much coffee

Super fun time making this video. I was a little rushed but, I think it makes the video even better. I did all post editing in imovie and found my sound on youtube. The music in the video I do not own but, I do provide list of copyrighted material in the film in the end credits. This was a good experience and I found that I am still a little rusty with managing sound levels as you can probably tell the audio is a little static. Overall, this was a fun project and look forward to making more short videos. I really like the idea of having a time limit on these kind of projects it really forces you to be creative and to use your environment and what you already know in regards to editing and creating. This video was shot on a Canon T5I. The location was my house and my drive to school.

5 Days, 5 Feelings

Unfortunately for me, not 5 people. This project… Is probably the first one that I can say I didn’t have fun working on. I wasn’t able to come up with a topic until a couple days before it was due, and even then I was incredibly stressed about whether or not I would be able to finish it. As you can see, I did. As you can also see, I wasn’t enthused about working on it. I just wanted to get it done and not have to deal with it. Even if I don’t get a good grade, it’s still done. It’s better than a total zero.

As you can see, for this project I asked a few people to tell me how their weeks go. Some of them had a lot to say, and others, not so much. I did have to chop some things out, to stay within the time limit. It turned out fine. Like I said, not the best. If I’d had a bit more time, or a bit more enthusiasm, it would have turned out better. Regardless, I hope you’ll find some of the things the talent says funny.

P5 Image Editing- Joey Johnson

This project was fun to work on.  I wanted to keep it simple so that I didn’t stress out, and it worked!  I knew at the 5th Street Market that a few businesses used the number 5 in their name.  So I went out and captured some shots like it was a commercial or in a way just featuring the businesses in the market.  I also tagged on a Five Guys Burgers joint that was by my house just because it was the number 5!  I had fun fitting it ll together and working in premier.  I was intimidated at first but I was just telling myself to keep it simple as this is just an introduction to the software, not a feature film to submit to Sundance.  I focused on putting the clips together in the order I wanted them, and have transitions between clips, used a few titles for the beginning and credits.  I also chose some fitting music to overlay the piece which helped move the story along. Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy!

What Do You Want To Be Doing In Five Years?

For my image editing project an idea that came to me right away was to interview five of my coworkers about what they want to be doing in five years because I know that none of us want to be doing what we’re doing now five years from now.

When I started filming I wasn’t sure exactly what tone was going to end up coming across. I was not sure if it would wind up being funny or pessimistic or sweet or something else. It ended up being pretty optimistic.

I found the editing process to be very fun. To be able to go through all of the raw footage and select all of the best parts and then put them all together with music and different transitions and stuff. The most difficult part was the audio, getting the music to be quieter as soon people started talking but still loud enough to be able to hear took some time.

The music I was able to find on the free music archive and I was really glad that I found it because I thought that it really helped get across the energetic and optimistic vibe that ended up taking shape for the video.

Overall I think this assignment went really well, I was glad that everybody was a good sport about being filmed and think that the footage I wound up getting worked really well.

Five Dogs – By Forrest Emery

After my audio project, I was a bit “creatived out,” if you will. I spent so much of my time developing a story for that project that by the time I got to this one, I didn’t want to do that again so soon. Instead, I wanted to come up with an idea that would let me focus on blending images, video, music, and my voice. I had all kinds of ideas on what to do, but I couldn’t settle on any of them because they didn’t use the number five. So, I started thinking of things that had to do with five in my life. I thought of my favorite bands, my favorite moments, and all kinds of other random things, but none of them lent themselves very well to this assignment. I was talking to my mom one evening while she was looking through some old photos of our family, and, you guessed it, our dogs. That’s when it hit me. I have grown up with a total of five dogs. It was perfect. I asked her if I could use some of the photos, gathered everything I needed, and went to work. I had a lot of fun comparing my dogs because as I was looking back on all of them, I realized how different they were, and how special that made each of them to me. Below you’ll find my finished project. Have fun getting to know five of my best friends!

Better Late than Never

Hey kids. Guess who finally decided to turn in an Audio assignment? This loser (after lots of unnecessary worry and nightmares about people hearing my voice recorded.) Ok so let’s get this out of the way first: wowzer I am NOT a voice actor. Fun factoid I was awake in the dead of night recording the voices for this and it took hours of retakes because my voice was cracking while I blushed furiously at how embarrassing this is for me. But I guess I pushed through it.

Follow Yinora the incompetent Guardian who has been separated from her Fireteam on the Dreadnought. She’s walking through a dark maze of thrall breeding grounds and I tried to pick ambient sounds that would help the listener visualize what was going on. Her voice sounds that way on purpose because I was trying to emulate the muffled echo of helmet comm systems but uh- it was hard. Lots of Low Pass and Amplify with an Echoing sprinkle. All sounds besides my voice were found on freesound.org. I wish I had put more time into this project but my huge anxiety towards voice work was a problem. Some sounds were very loud and others were soft so I really tried to level them out into something decent to listen to. The one thing I’m sorta happy with is Orin’s A.I. voice effects, not his voice itself. Kinda corny but it was fun to script out the situation Yinora got in.

IMA Audio Project!

Wow, I lost this track and had to remake it!  I guess I’m ready for the real world of media hiccups!

This was fun to make.  It is a fake newscast that is abruptly taken over by my rap about current states of affairs in a political and cultural rap diatribe.   Just a little ditty I came up with to fit the project, but excited to work with other music artists in the area to create dynamic rap/dance tracks to put together choreography and music videos.  I wanted to do something that showed my writing skills, rhythm, and humor becuse I am also interested in sketch comedy writing as well.  Thanks for listening, and I hope it gives you a better idea of who I am as a person, and an artist.

Classic Hip-Hop Night at The Golden Pineapple

Originally I was going to have a friend of mine rap over one of several beats I found on freesound.org, and put some sound effects at the beginning and end, but we couldn’t quite get it together within the time limit, so I put loops of the three beats I liked the best together and recorded a commercial over that track.

I did a commercial for a classic hip-hop night at a fictitious club called The Golden Pineapple. I chose this because I love classic boom-bap hip-hop but, the last time I checked, an autotune-heavy, candy-coated kind of hip-hop was popular on the radio and at many clubs, and that stuff just is not for me. I basically just made up an ad for the type of night I would enjoy attending or DJing.

I was really surprised how easy it was to loop the beats and switch from one beat to another. The Audacity program makes it quite easy to loop or change stuff right on beat. Getting the Audacity music track I made on my PC to import the vocal track I recorded on a Mac at school was much more difficult than I expected though. It was really fun playing with the beats, but definitely frustrating at times dealing with that damn vocal track. I hope you guys enjoy the beats.
