Five Small Objects

I chose to do five objects in five different colors shot in five different angles. So I decided to use five thumb tacks for my first five shots. Then I used five different colored candy’s for my second shots. and then for the last shots I chose five different colored dice with the five dots on the dice showing. The tough part of this project was trying to get good enough angles and making sure they weren’t to blurry. I did my best to try and get good enough close up shots of everything and trying to get everything to fit in the frame. The lighting was a challenge as well but I think it turned out okay. The editing part was fun and not hard. I had done some editing before in high school so I new my way around the editing program. The song is from NCS  No Copyright Sounds and I found them on YouTube. I really enjoyed this project and hope to do more in the future since this stuff is mainly what I like to do. The stuff I usually like to do video editing on are gaming videos like montages and stuff which I might post on YouTube sometimes.

W18-P5 Image Editing: 5 Shadow Puppets

This project has given me some experience with Adobe Premiere, one of the newest programs I have used. Adobe Premiere is different to the other programs I am used to when editing films, but I believe that I understand how it works. I enjoyed this project, but had some difficulties filming the project. For instance, I had some difficulty getting the clips to film me doing each shadow puppet. Sometimes I looked at the clips and it did not capture my hand’s movements.

Not only was the filming the hard part, but I had some difficulty with my audio. I did my audio on my own time with Audacity, and used a script I wrote to read out loud into the microphone. When I listened to the audio, I did not like the results. So I decided to restart and read the script in a different way. Once that was done, I was happy with my audio.

Lastly, I had a difficult time with finding shadow puppets I could use for my film. I wanted to use puppets that I did not know, but I knew some of them online. However, I picked five shadow puppets I thought would be fun to use for me with this project. I am happy with the ones I have chosen to use.

Overall, I like doing this project and I think I am satisfied with my work on the five shadow puppets I used for my film. Despite my difficulties, I managed to find a way to past them and learn these experiences. I have learned my mistakes, and I hope that the next project I can avoid making the same ones so I can feel good about producing the best project. The W18-P5 Image Editing project has been a great project whatsoever.

This is my P5 Image Editing Project. I hope you like it!

Premier Editing with Rio:

I chose 5 seconds of 15 stale clips of my dog ‘rio-burrito’. I was trying to accomplish a video where he was dressed in 5 holiday outfits however that didn’t go quite as planned. All files I had of the video got corrupted so instead i had to make this. Which ended up just as well.

I ended up using a canon camera in taking the photos I have in video, (out of video I ended up using my ipod camera). For me using my dog it was pretty easy I had him sit in one spot every time that was well lighted and then took some pictures (about 10) before every video. Had I not done that I would have had nothing to show for my project or the work that went into it.

With every take I did we ended with treats, then put him in a new outfit to set him back in place again. We ended up doing 8 outfits however you’ll only be seeing four within this video. I wouldn’t recommend normally using animals in your video less you have a well behaved/mannered animal ready and eager to please (like my goof ball).

The premier aspect was difficult to manage at first however was a lot easier to use than other adobe softwares i’ve used. The most difficult part I had making this project was remembering to save and backup everything (which is where the whole video to pictures feature came from.) Yet everything came together well and worked out.

“The Sacrifice” by Emmett Crass

I’ll be honest, I had a really hard time figuring out what to do for my project. I thought about maybe doing a video composed of how my voice has changed on hormones recently since when I think of “5” I think of the five years I waited to start transitioning. I’m pretty sure being in our own video is against the rules though so I cut that idea. Then I decided it would be fun to animate the 5 favorite things my cat likes to do which are 1. Sleep 2. Play 3. Run 4. Eat 5. Sacrifice Souls. This lead to three days spent working and figuring out my computer wasn’t strong enough to do what I wanted and it would take me far too long to finish.

This is when I decided to switch up parts of the project I had planned. At first I wanted to do the whole thing as an animation, but then changed it to being mostly snapshots with some animation to be able to finish everything in the time I was given.

This entire project had me in Animate, Illustrator, Photoshop, Audition, Premiere Pro, and Media Encoder. I’m honestly only truly used to using Photoshop and Animate so I felt like I was trying to learn a lot of programs and figuring out how to piece them together to my best ability.

I really like how “The Sacrifice” turned out in the end. Even though I was jumping around in new programs for hours and my cat often refused to act out the scenes as I told her to, it was really fun to make. Figuring out the audio and pairing it with the story was my favorite part and I enjoyed making the title sequence.

There was a lot more I wanted to do with this project and I will probably go back and fix it up more.

I hope you all like it!

Image Editing Project: Five Materials

For this project, we were supposed to create something that expresses the number 5 in some way. I toyed around with a few different ideas; one of which involved a sort of stop-and-go style that looks like stop motion animation, but with photography or video. I got a certain distance into the process before I realized just how time-consuming it is to do this method. I am definitely going to continue exploring this technique, and perhaps it can come to life in a future media arts class. I can imagine it working quite well with a crew of multiple people working on it.

Another idea I had was to go out to various locations and find motifs and patterns of 5 things, and photograph them. I did some of this, but the weather turned foul.

Ultimately, I decided to create a still image presentation of 5 different common materials. One of the benefits of being a janitor is the ability to have access to a variety of locations around town that I clean. This presented quite a few indoor photographic opportunities, and gave me the idea to shape my project around the presentation of 5 materials. I tried to do the project as a combination of video and still images, but the video footage I shot is all quite shaky. My handheld shooting skills are very unremarkable, and my attempts to stabilize the footage in software was taking a long time and not producing good results. So I decided to play to my strength and stick to still images, with some nice animations and transitions applied to add some life to it. The images used are a combination of photos I took myself and royalty-free photos from my collection. I happened to have a good amount of rock photos from a recent trip to the Oregon Coast, and my mother has a box of various fabrics that she stores here. The music is “Hans – Growing,” and is available for non-commercial use.

I did the image editing in Photoshop, and edited the sequence together in Premiere.

5 places to visit in Florence!

Hi everyone! I decided to create a little tour guide video around my home town, Florence. Many people in Eugene don’t visit Florence often, and I’ve met some folks who don’t even know where it’s located! It’s about an hour and a half away from Eugene by car. It’s a coast city, and it hosts my favorite place to surf: South Jetty. It also has astonishing waterfalls, lakes, a river, and creeks to enjoy in Summer. The weather isn’t as extreme, so it tends not to get too hot, or too cold most of the year. However, this week it snowed a little and it has been a bit cold. That’s why I didn’t get out to film for this project as much as I hoped. I ended up filming South Jetty, the Old Town Harbor, the water tower and the sign you first see when you enter Florence, the Heceta Head Lighthouse, and just for laughs, the Safeway supermarket because Florence is a very small town and frankly we don’t have that many exciting places.

It was my first time driving to the Heceta Head Lighthouse alone (I’ve gone in summer camps and with family before, but I never drove). I got lost on the way there and back, and I ended up accidentally driving halfway to Yachats before realizing I didn’t recognize any of the trail signs that I was driving past. I ended up doing a cramped 3-point turn, and worrying if I really had been going the wrong way for a while.. which I had been! Also, just to warn you Yachats doesn’t have a gas station (crazy right?) and you have to go to a different city to get gas, because apparently the only gas station they had went out of business! Also, my gps wasn’t working out there..

If you plan to take a trip to North or South jetty, do pack a few extra coats and scarves, because you never know how windy it might be.. I had to include that man fishing for surf perch in my video because he didn’t appear to be dressed correctly for being out there, especially in Winter! It was crazy! When we surf out there, we wear full body wetsuits, with gloves and booties, in Summer! There’s also many astonishing sunrises over there, it was just too chilly for me to stay that long that day, and the next time I came, it full-on hailed! The entire ground was covered in hail..

I hope you all enjoy my video, it was my first time making one like this!

W18-P5 Kevin’s Image Editing

I accepted the assignment of what 5 means to me. At first I thought it was a rather odd task, however I quickly did a google search for 5. I ended up with more material than I needed. It took me some time to whittle down the stuff I unearthed. There is much about the number 5 online.  I wanted to put 5 in the perspective of a movie. I wasn’t sure how I was going to accomplish this. It came to me that it was important to expand my skills and try Premiere. I gave it a good go and felt it would take much more time that I had to be at the college and use the computers there. As we were shorted a school day this past Monday, I reverted to what I knew. That it good old ProTools. After compiling the 5 stuff I wanted to use it got thrown into a power point slide show. With the use of the animation and some help with a few giphy files, I thought I had it made. It was easy fairly so to have someone at work do the audio portion of the movie. I used quicktime screen record to make the movie a finished piece of work. Unfortunately, WordPress does not allow for importing a movie within the free version for students.

I had a great time gathering, condensing, audio capturing, powerpoint making, and finally putting it all together for my Presentation of what 5 means to me.

I was especially pleased to learn the quicktime can make a movie and/or at a least do a movie clip of what it sees on the computer screen.    Kevin

F.I.V.E

I done goofed. I read the instructions a little late and thought the minimum was 2 minutes. So at least it is not too much ahead, just 30 seconds. BUT with this project, I tried being creative and twisting the rules a little bit. What I did was rebellious. I made 5 ways that I am in the video but actually aren’t because the rule is you can’t be in your own film. I like this project because I was able to work with everything like audio, filming, editing, directing, etc. It was fun, we got the buddies together and shot some stuff for a few days. Editing was my favorite because I was able to try a bunch of new things with Premiere. Editing definitely took the longest but I was impressed how it turned out. What I was trying to accomplish is my skills with my camera and with Premiere. With my camera, I focused on good angels, transitions, and making the subjects the main point. With Premier, I wanted to use new effects. I learned how to use my green screen, how to climate the green screen in editing(could use a little more work), how to have two videos play at once, the blur effect and much more. I even used Audition with this project to make sure nothing was clipping and all audio was even and clear. The ending was new too. I had that video made in the process of this whole video and thought it would be an interesting ending. But the video itself wasn’t enough, so I put it within the words. I also wanted to try something new with the title. So I made it jump with snares, fade and blur in. The font was just a free font I got on an website.
