P5 – 5 Things About Japan That I Like

I had a lot of fun making this video because I made about 5 of my favorite things. I made this video using a mobile app called “InShot”. I wanted to make it large enough to view on the phones, but for some reason when I posted it on Youtube, it had a blank space. I don’t know how to fix it, so I will make it an assignment to figure out how to fix it. I took a lot of vertical photos when I was in Japan, but not many videos, so I wish I had taken some when I was in Japan.

For background music, I used free music included in the app and recorded my voice as well. I was able to record from any point in time, so instead of recording all at once, I recorded a few times. It was a fairly easy process. It was also good practice for speaking English. Following Teresa’s advice, I also included a Japanese countdown. If anyone wants to study Japanese, I hope they will listen to it.

I found some problems in video editing, but I also found the functionality of “InShot” to be very good. I will use this app again when I make videos in the near future.

This is a hand drawn piece that only took me a few hours to finish. There is no music, and this is not a video because that would be a silly way to display a still image. I hope you like the number five. Thank you for reading.

Five Years of Margin Doodles

This project was . . . interesting. Video editing is very much not my strong suit, and neither is working with anything involving sound, so this whole thing was slapped together with a healthy helping of “I sure hope this works”. Getting all of the pictures was definitely a more entertaining process, if somewhat cringe-worthy. All of the doodles come from various notebooks that I’ve used over the past five years, which are mostly full of writing that hasn’t seen the light of day, and definitely for good reasons. Some doodles didn’t make it into the final video, actually, because there was too much text around them or enough in their vicinity that I deemed them ineligible.

But I digress.

There’s a very loose color-code system to the doodles: older pieces are likely to be in black ink, while colored ink or pencil are hallmarks of somewhat more recent work. The doodles are sorted into a few categories, and as I learned while assembling the video, I drew a lot of wings or things with wings. A surprisingly small number of crests were legible enough to be included; aside from the wonky ‘horned’ crest, none of those pictured are connected to any major plot points in any of my worlds.

In summary, while I’m happy enough with my final video, there’s a lot that I wish I could’ve done better, as well as a lot more that I wish I could’ve included without having to awkwardly block out everything around the doodle itself. I hope to get better over time with both video and audio editing.

5 Different Sketches of 5 Different Things

Flash Warning? This project was definitely hard to figure out what to do at first, as the directions were very vague. This makes me excited to see what everyone came up with though! I came up with my Idea by just simply wanting to draw more. I always hear people saying drawing at least once a day can help you improve. So I thought hey, I can draw some stuff each day and then compile them all into a video for my project.

I didn’t exactly know how I was going to execute that until I went and picked out an audio track to use. I thought the drums were very prominent and were perfect to make the pictures cut between each other. I added the switching black and white background because I just simply thought it looked cool with the music.

I picked 5 different random things to draw and drew 5 each day for 5 days. I outlined them in 5 different colors to help add to the theme of 5. I tore them out of my book and taped them onto a different paper I scribbled on to make it look a bit more interesting.

I wish I had done something a bit more with my project though, but I had a lot going on last week so I couldn’t work on it as much as I would have liked. I should have taken my pictures in landscape, but I didn’t realize it til I started editing…

What does 5 mean to you project

Being assigned a project like this one was very challenging at first. No directions. No leading ideas. Just be creative. So that’s exactly why I did. I started storyboarding a halloween skit that I thought of in class. From there all the marbles fell into place. Although I will say that when I had my finished script leaving class, when it came time to shoot the film lots of things changed. There was a plot developed into the story, multiple shots were changed, and this is where the feeling changed as well. Shooting this video was not only a very fun experience but I learned a lot about which shots I was able to use for what I was trying to create. I also realized how long each individual shot would take on its own. Learning to work with actors (in this case my mom) was also a very interesting process on its own. I had to learn to cooperate with ideas that they felt should be involved in this film and how I would be able to incorporate the film and on the spot ideas. Shooting this video took 2 days from start to finish and I couldn’t be happier with the final product with the time provided.

17, 5 second timelapses

Above is my video for Project 5 which includes seventeen five second timelapses. A number of the timelapses are shorted in length by speeding them up in Premiere to match the theme of five for the project and in this particular case, five seconds. All of these shots are available for sale on a number of stock video sites so because of that almost no one has seen them except for potential customers. I think out of all of them I have made only a couple of sales partly because some of them are editorial only footage and can’t be used for commercial purposes.

In Premiere I added a short title and a shot list at the end. I think if I was to do it again I would change it to add a quick intro to each location before each shot. As it stands now viewers of interest have to scrub back to each timelapse after the end of the video if they want to see which location is which. Also the timelapses were assembled in After Effects so they could be sold as 4k footage so the video can be viewed in 4k as well.

An Ode to Shrek 2 – P3 Audio

When initially starting this assignment I was planning to record an Aesop’s fable, but after a rewatch of one of my favorite movies, Shrek 2, inspiration struck and I decided to utilize this project to honor a true cinematic work of art. 

I had an amazing time working on this project! My goal was to create something that was unique, silly, and fun to listen to. Though the premise for my audio project is a bit absurd, I do feel as though the lyrics tell a story of a girl trying to prove to the world that Shrek 2 is the best Shrek in the series. I composed the project in GarageBand using a Snowball microphone to record vocals and a MIDI keyboard to create the instrumentals. The project ended up becoming much bigger than I imagined, but I think that the effort was worth it.

The two most time consuming aspects of this project were writing the lyrics and mixing the many layers together so that nothing felt out of place. Overall, I feel like I succeeded in my goal of creating a subtly argumentative piece that is also an entertaining listen. I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as I did creating it.

5 Years…

I think the message in this video is clear. If we do not have our planet, then we have nothing. It’s important to keep these things in mind ESPECIALLY during election times.

It was extremely disturbing how easy this video was to make. I didn’t have to search very hard, and I didn’t even use a quarter of the footage I archived. I think everyone can see the impending doom upon the horizon if huge steps are not taken immediately. But what can we do about it? The longer we wait, the harder it will be to come back from this. We have been breathing the toxic smokey Pacific Northwest air every Summer. We are witnessing the effects already in just FIVE YEARS.

Bully your representatives into taking action, and VOTE.

P4 Audio – Kaiden Kuntz

I was mainly hoping to tell this story in a super serious sounding way in order to emphasize the goofy joke that I decided to write for it. I have heard quite a few ‘spooky’ podcasts, so I knew what I had in my mind when I decided to go with the scary route for this assignment. The music and the sound effects were all used with this in mind, specifically because I wanted to hook the audience in order to make the lead up to the actual joke that much more effective. Overall, I think I could do a better job if I gave it another go. I feel like I have a little more experience with combining audio than I did before, so I imagine that I’d probably be able to balance the audio out in a better way. I’ve made stop motion videos where I decided to add sound effects to them, but that usually doesn’t entail too much work because each sound effect is fairly separated from one another. So, while this isn’t the first time that I’ve worked with audio, it was a bigger project and there was more overlapping of background audios that I had to do in order to put it together.

Also, I referred to Mixkit for nearly all of my audio, which is a great online resource for both music and sound.
