I have always been into action sports! For a girl, that’s not exactly the sports path that people would expect. I’ve been skateboarding since I was four, and have skateboarded alongside some of the best skateboarders in history! (Bob Burnquist, Tony Hawk, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, etc.) I wasn’t competing against them but before I moved away from San Diego, I was doing the same sized half pipes as them and skating with them almost every time I went to the local park with an X-Games ramp. After moving from San Diego to Bend, I found that my style of skateboarding was hard to continue with the resources available to me. Then, I was introduced to snowboarding. Ooooh boy, let me tell you, I love snowboarding! It’s my favorite thing to do. Although I’m not able to do it year-round I’m always training for it! One thing I’ve always dreamed about doing is making videos for snowboarding! I own a GoPro so I’m always out filming my friends and I, but have never been the best at editing my videos. in this class, that’s what I’m hoping to learn! Maybe we won’t go into detail about that type of thing in the class, but at least taking this class will give me a better idea of if a Media Arts career is something I’d like to pursue! Whatever I do, I hope that I am working to help better the lives of other female action sports athletes. Whether media arts can get me to where I want to be with my career or not is what I hope to find out in this class, and even if it can’t I’m excited to broaden my horizon on what I already consider to be decent technology skills.
