Spencer Jones – P4 Audio

With this audio production assignment I wanted to give my audience a look into one of my fond childhood memories while also evoking some nostalgia from people who maybe had similar experiences as kids. While we all grew up in different backgrounds and have had different experiences that have shaped us into the people we are today, I’m sure that all of us also have some obscure but warm memories from out childhoods that are still present with us to this day. So enjoy my retelling of the story from the day that the (Inflatable) Titanic sank.

Overall I had tons of fun with this assignment. it was really awesome getting to wrack my brain for different memories that I could turn into an auditory story for everyone to enjoy. not only that, I had a ton of fun with the editing process of this project. Deciding what song to use what sound effects to put where, and even just recording different takes of my dialogue.

“I never forgot about my passion; I never forgot to do something for me. So whatever job you do, don’t lose yourself. I didn’t.”

David Banks, Roadtrip Nation

David Banks is a award-winning filmmaker and photographer who defies the idea that a college education is the only path to feeling successful.

Growing up, David was made to think he was stupid, when really he was just struggling with dyslexia and vowel-deafness. However, he knew he was not stupid and took it upon himself to teach himself about his interests.

Although he couldn’t afford it nor did he have the grades, he moved out to California and would bus from Burbank to USC to buy used books from their bookstore. He has since built a successful career and won 2 Emmys.

He says he did so by setting reachable goals, as high expectations would lead to frustration. It is very beautiful that he derives a sense of success from feeling happy in his work, rather than money, fame and awards.

I found the way he spoke about his journey to be very relatable and inspiring to my own future.

P4 Audio George Hendrickson: Jordan Peterson Has The Meats

With this assignment I wanted to have some fun with the garbage human being that is Jordan Peterson. Yes, this is real. This man tried to convince everyone to be a carnivore for years. I can’t help but laugh at the absurdity of him preaching a positive lifestyle while doing that to his body. I had a great experience with this assignment and it’s probably my favorite one so far. I suppose I also wanted to get the point across that eating only meat, especially beef, is one of the worst long-term things you can do for your body.

I also love when these grifters who use big words to sound intelligent go mask off, and you can see how foolish and ridiculous they actually are. This man is off the rails and deserves to have his platform taken way, but gosh dang it, it’s too much fun to roleplay the worst version of Kermit the frog ever. People like this are dangerous, but if we are able to laugh at them it can take away some of their power, and we can feel a little better about it at the same time.

With this audio assignment, I thought it would be great to read off one of my in progress short stories. I went through a little writing phase, and I thought that being forced to read one of my stories would help me think critically about my writing. It definitely did, and I found a bunch of stuff even in just the first page that needs further refining. Some of the descriptions are a little long winded or unnecessary, but I wanted to practice being my creative when I wrote it. I don’t have a concrete idea for what it’s about, but I was hoping that this dramatic reading of the first page would be a good teaser for people to hear, and want to know what happens after. I didn’t do much sound effects at the start as a lot of it is exposition, but I was very happy with the carnival noise and spooky sounds at the end, it really puts you right there with the main character.

I did a pretty good job recording everything the first try, I just used my phone which made it very convenient, but I would like to check out a field recorder for next time. I just had to edit out some of my small mess ups and cut out some of my longer pauses, overall ending in a pretty good product. I do wish that I had read it a bit more dramatic, but recording anything but my normal voice is very difficult.

in my report I decided to highlight Effie Brown. She is best known for producing films and TV shows such as, Rocket Science, Real Women Have Curves, Everyday People, and Desert Blue. I choose her specifically because she aims to give people of color and other minorities a voice within her stories. Which is a long term goal I strive to achieve as well.

P2: Riddles – Tristan Daniluk

What has arms and legs, but no head? A Chair!
What can’t be burned in a fire nor drowned in water? Ice Ice Baby!
I have a big mouth and I’m quite a load. I’m not gossip, but I get involved in everyone’s dirty business. What am I? A Vacuum!
Stepping out? Wear me first! I’ll protect your feet from the worst. Shoes!
Tall and strong, I stay outside. The sun, the rain, they’re by my side. I give birds homes and help you breathe. I even give you fruit to eat. A Tree!
Here I come and there I go. I move really fast, anywhere I go. That’s why you take me when you’re in a hurry. When I zoom by, I might look blurry. A Car!
Kick up your feet, if you will. I’ll keep you company through Netflix and chill. Though you might not notice, I’m always here, to hold your zines, your snacks, and beer. A Table!
You say we’re pals, that we’re best friends. But only until the morning ends. You say I give you fuel for the day. And when we’re done, you’re gone away.  A Coffee Machine!
Don’t frown at me, I made it clear. Won’t make a difference if you’re near. Just stand in front and I’ll show you exactly how the world will know you. A Mirror!
