P3-RTN Report

“Attitude plays a big role.”

The videos I have watched from Roadtrip nation felt a bit outdated and irrelevant to what new students need. While I appreciate the lesson they are trying to tell future entrepreneurs and marketing professionals, I feel like they had a bit of an advantage by getting the full support they have acquired at the time they were in. Times have definitely changed that even with the support I have been getting, opportunities are not as available, the field has gotten a hundred times more competitive and its saturation has definitely become more apparent.

P3 RTN: Ben Younger by Dennis Pak

https://roadtripnation.com/interviews/benyounger

A filmmaker who started not knowing what he wanted to do in college. Eventually, he figured it out.

Milestones:

Knew he loved movies more than anything else in life, but never thought it could be a career.

Nothing else really jumped out at him, so he majored in communications.

After college, found a production assistant job and fell in love with the film set on the first day.

Wayne’s Story: https://roadtripnation.com/leader/wayne-unten

Milestones:
For some time, he’d work on a construction site during the day, then painstakingly animate his reel at night.

Says that although the “value” of his work has been questioned, making an audience laugh or cry is the best feeling in the world.

Says the characters he creates are like his children; making the most realistic, true characters possible is really a labor of love for him.

The Roadtrip to Glenna Goodacre

  • Has been sculpting for 40 years.
  • Always wanted to be an artist, but felt pressure to get her degree, start a family, “do what women are supposed to do…says somebody.”
  • Had a sculpting professor who told her she couldn’t “see three-dimensional,” discouraged her from pursuing it.
  • She was a painter for 20 years; years down the line, someone encouraged her to try sculpting again.
  • As she began selling a few pieces, she slowly regained her confidence in sculpting.
  • Designed the Sacagawea gold coin, the Vietnam Women’s Memorial in Washington D.C., helped design the New Mexico state quarter.
  • Says that because people are her passion, she most enjoys sculpting likenesses of people.
  • Doesn’t care if people don’t like her “funny-looking ballerinas”-she likes making her sculptures so much, she’s stopped caring what people think.
