Media Arts Resources At Lane

This project was a Scavenger Hunt for various locations on the LCC campus that were mostly resources for students in the media arts program.

The first location I went was Bld. 17 where Teresa Hughes office is and also the gear checkout and studio room.

Resources for Media Arts Students at Lane

This collection of pictures below is part of a class assigned scavenger hunt around the campus.

by: Derek Watson

sh1

1.) First up on our list, the front door to the office of the woman who made this fun little scavenger hunt possible. (Teresa Hughes) 🙂

sh2

2.) Next up, a shot of the “Blue Cyc Wall” in the Building 17 Studio room. Something personally I’ve always wanted to see, along with the rest of the building. (I feel the scavenger hunt helped with that.) I hope next term to take some classes in there.

sh3

3.) Next, we move on to a shot of the Equipment checkout area; where students enrolled in Media Arts classes can go to checkout gear. (I’ve always wondered where this was..)

sh4

4.) Now we move on to a place I was very familiar with, the main Art Gallery. A place where students, teachers, and other faculty members can showcase and even sell their work. This is a very cool place where things are always different and you can see a lot of different forms of art. (some you may not have even thought of at first as art.)

sh5

5.) Just outside the Art Gallery we find this, “The Art-O-Mat” a vending machine-like dispensary unit that, for the low price of $5 will give you a chance to own a piece of art from a local artist. (I once bought a sonic-cow from it, and gave it to a friend my first term at Lane.)

sh6

6.) Here we have a shot of the “Reference Help Desk” located in the Library. (and like any help desk you happen to find – there’s never anyone in the chair.) lol :p

sh7

7.) Another place I was very familiar with was the Health & Wellness Building, and the Large Silver Sculpture just outside of it. (I always thought this looked like a giant bobby pin stuck in the ground.)

sh8

8.) Number eight on our list, we have located just off to the right side of the Art-O-Mat, is the office of: Mary Jo Kreindel. (The Arts Division Office Specialist.) I can recall her giving me help my first term at Lane while looking for a class, she was very nice. 🙂

sh9

9.) Next we move on to a place I frequent more then any other at Lane..the bus stop. (No explanation needed.)

sh10

10.) Probably the toughest thing personally for me to find on the whole list was the office of: Christina Salter (Advisor of Media Arts) The reason this was so hard to find was because the first person I had asked about where to find her office told me that I could find it in Building 10 (or the Media Arts Building) It made sense at the time.. :p but later I found out that she was actually in Building 1 (as far away as she could be from where I was at the time on the campus.)

sh11

11.) In at number eleven on the scavenger hunt we have the common area of the “Indie Lab” found on the 2nd floor of Building 17. (I’ve never been in this room until the scavenger hunt assignment, much less this building, but I’m assuming it’s where students can go and get art-related class work and other things done in their spare time.)

sh12

12.) Next on our list is a place where any and all new students at Lane start. “The Students First Building” or – Building 1. (When you first walk in you get a real sense of united pride with the flags of many nations showcased, as they hang like banners from left to right along the top of a high arched ceiling.

sh13

13.) Last on our list is the seen of a both a distraction to many and yet, a sign of progress; for the College, the teachers, students, and future students. That is to say,”The Construction” outside the new remodel of the Lane Library Building.

About Me

At Fairview Peak Lookout; July 2013.

At Fairview Peak Lookout; July 2013.

Hello, my name is Ian.  I was born in Eugene, Oregon and spent the first twelve years of my life there until my family and I moved to Grants Pass in 2005. After graduating from high school in 2011, I moved back to Eugene to further my education at Lane Community College. I began taking classes at Lane in 2011 focusing on an AAOT degree in Media Arts. I have also worked in the Titan bookstore on campus since the time I began taking classes. Some of my personal hobbies include: Spending time with my family, four-wheeling, hiking and exploring new areas, hunting/fishing, photography, making short videos of some of the cool places I’ve visited. By the time I leave Lane, I hope to have improved my skills enough to draw me even closer to a career that I will enjoy. Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog and find out a little bit about me!

BTW: I have a twin brother that also attends Lane, so don’t be surprised if you see 2 of me wandering around!

You may say I’m a dreamer…

Growing up, I was always very indecisive as to what I would be when I “grew up”. As the answer to the question changed throughout the years, my interests began to expand as well. As a child of many talents, I cut my dolls’ hair, painted and scuplted with my father, wrote elaborate speeches and recited them to anyone who would listen, and put on dance performances for my family. Throughout my childhood, I was involved in sports, debate clubs, leadership conferences, and the performing arts. My career options that I had laid out for myself included becoming a hairstylist, a singer, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, a comedian (still a very plausible dream),or a lawyer. As college starting approaching, these fantasies began to fade, and I was left with literally (seriously, literally), no idea as to what career path I would choose. It was not until my junior year of high school during the mandatory “Career Day” that I was presented to the world of Public Relations. I thought that my skills and more importantly, my personality fit the major and my future career position options perfectly. I knew how to handle scandals, plan events, and use my voice to aid and inform others. This realistic dream of mine is now within reach, and I believe that gaining more Media Art skills will aid me in my future.

Whats up media classmates, my name is Christian Hindley. This is my second term at Lane and my second total year in college. Next term im going to dual enroll at UO. I’m currently studying Criminal Justice here, and I plan on joining the Navy after school. Im from Portland, Oregon. I love the Portland Trail Blazers, I love the Oregon ducks, and most sports in general. I tend to stay active whether its at the gym, outdoors, or vigorously shouting profanities at the xbox, Im usually up to something. I love life and everything it has to offer so I try to make the best of it.

Cheers!

A Little Bit About Me

Hey there! This is my very first time on WordPress, so I am excited to read everyone else’s blogs and get to know a little about them. A few things about me: my name is Brendan MacDonald, I was born and lived in Eugene for 12 years before moving to Grants Pass. I graduated High School in Grants Pass before moving back up to Eugene to enroll at Lane Community College. So far I have completed 3 years at Lane and have been studying the Multimedia field. My goal is to graduate this year with an AAOT degree and hopefully have discovered a career within Multimedia to pursue. In my free time I enjoy ATV riding, adventures with my family and friends. I have an identical twin brother who also attends Lane and is in the same program as me. He is also in the same class so if you have read his blog already, reading mine is probably going to feel like history repeating itself (Lol)! We have almost everything in common. He is crazy about exploring and going on hikes in the woods and I accompany him on all his adventures! Some other things I enjoy are video games, movies, and taking/editing pictures and videos.

I look forward to reading my fellow classmates blogs and getting to know a little bit about them! This class is so far very interesting and I hope to gain more insight of the possible career opportunities in Multimedia from it!

Thanks for reading!

Brendan

My brother Ian and I.

Concept artist in training.

My name is Alan Thompson. I am pursuing a career in concept art, and illustration. I  focus primarily on landscape, or environments. I have used traditional mediums for many years, and just recently started working with some of the digital painting programs, and Photoshop.

my love of nature has a lot to do with my subject matter. I grew up in the small town of Lyons, thirty miles south-east of Salem. My family and I lived on the river, and I spent most of my childhood exploring the woods a water. Now that I live in town, I often find myself wanting to escape back to my roots. Though this isn’t always possible, I have found the next best thing is to loose myself in a landscape painting.
