Elliott Erwitt’s photography is renowned for it’s raw and honest feel and I like how effortless his photos are. His pictures of people and situations are both introspective as well as humorous and I love the juxtaposition in many of them. I enjoyed working on this assignment, it pushed me to focus on composition over technique. I’d like to strive for a similar combination of luck and effortlessness in my own work
A video done for my Intro to Media class. I’ve never used Premiere before and this was definitely was a learning curve for me. The theme was what the number 5 means to you and my original idea was harmony, though with the shots I had I wanted to find my zen in the progress. The music was originally going to go with the harmony theme, harmony itself was too complicated for me to explain. To have harmony is to have peace and zen is inner peace.
On Reddit, one of the main forums is ELI5: Explain Like I’m Five. It’s dedicated to simple explanations for complex concepts. I have always found the title amusing because rarely does it discus topics that a five year old would be concerned about. That’s likely because it’s run by adults, for adults. However, what if you asked some younger folks, much closer to the age of five, to share things that a five year old would like to do? I asked four kids to share how they do things in a way a five year old would understand.
I enjoyed learning to use Premier Pro to edit it together. It was a great challenge and I learned many aspects of this very versatile program. I look forward to working with it in the future.
This project had its share of highs and lows. It was very fun, yet difficult at times. I got the idea for the project from my previous one where it centered in the forest. Since I live in the forest I decided that it was a perfect opportunity to show how calming and beautiful a walk through the woods could be. I also had to include the motif of 5 in most of my compositions which was very fun finding objects or an arrangement of 5 objects. While production of the video and photographs seen in the final video was relatively easy, the editing portion of the project proved quite difficult. For example, while editing, I had to get use to the editing software since I was use to editing using Adobe After Effects so I had to spend a short period of time learning of ways to edit my project in a quick and efficient manner. I also had to learn how to balance the time of each shot both with the photos and the video, for that I incorporated dissolves to transition between certain scenes while adding some zooms for most the photographs to make an almost calming view of the image. For short video that I added to the project I slowed it down and cut it to as certain point in order to make it more effective. This project Proved to be both challenging and fun at the same time and I love how it turned out.
This video was very fun to make. I let my kids act in it, so they feel involved in what dad does at school all day. Kirk Hollins Jr was kid pool and Iman Burks my niece was the killer teddy bear. M y youngest duaghter Tatianna Hollins was the Tay Tay. I filmed the video in my sisters back yard. It was a interesting project that I really injoyed.
What I was trying to accomplish in this video was to show Frankie exploring and enjoying the Rose Garden, highlighting the 5 different roses. I experienced a lot of problems with lighting before eventually realizing that my camera was set to a dark exposure, so after turning it back to standard that video looked amazing, but unfortunately that meant that a lot of my shots were not usable. That being said, I was really happy with the shots that I did get with proper lighting, including capturing a bee in a beautiful flower which made me very pleased.
I certainly could’ve done better with showing it in my of a story format, it just would’ve required more shots but I unfortunately ran out of time on the day of the shoot. In the future I will immediately check for those camera settings, I just didn’t know what to look for this time around.
This video is very different from what I had imagined when I first learned about this project. I had a video planned that revolves around the video genre that I’ve been filming for the last couple years. When I learned that I could not appear in the video, I had to come up with something completely different.
In almost all of my YouTube videos I either have myself as the subject of the video or a product that I am reviewing. For this I decided to do some things I had never done before. I did a lot of environmental and establishing shots.
This forced me to really focus on the framing of my shots and keeping concepts like, the rule of thirds, in mind.
I think the process went well, and should I need to do environmental or establishing shots in the future, I think it’ll be easier for me after this project.
This Eerie, Mysterious Tale was made with a Lowkey Lighting feel in mind. The music is slow, calm, and combined with the visuals brings a creepy feeling to it.
As I worked on this project I shifted my intentions several times, and ended up going down a visual feeling I’ve experienced while watching video projects like Marble Hornets. Moments where you don’t know what’s going on, where things happen that shouldn’t normally within the real world, and a story that leaves you with lots of questions at the end.
Honestly, while I did like working on this project I didn’t have any solid ideas going into it, aside from the shot of the figure reaching away from the camera. Most everything else came to me as I was working on it and I was struggling to figure out the next segment and make it to a minute’s time.
In the end I hope I can take this and refine it into its own creepy story that others can enjoy.
So this is my video project I decided to make a goofy video using some of my media skills that i have gained from years of work. The concept is a knight who is at home off work and in his casual outfit waking up and making breakfast. Does it sound boring yes but with the music choices and actions of the character I feel it makes for a funny and entertaining video. I want to make people laugh at this especially now with some of the drama thats out there and to show that you don’t have to make a super artsy dramatic video you can be stupid and fun. I knew that this project would require at least one effect in it which was the alarm clock i used a speaker as the base and with some simple editing I made it look like a alarm clock.
What I learned from doing this project was the power of time constraints the limit of two minutes affected how the video came out the story was going to end in a completely different way but the video would have been about five minutes long. So overall I am proud of this project and I hope you will get some laughs out of it.
