RTN – Animator

Wayne Unten was originally a graphics design major but had a lingering sense of not knowing what he wanted to do. All he knew was that he wanted to do art, which hints at why he was a graphic design major. One day in an illustration class, he saw that they were telling “stories” through the illustrations, something so simple, yet he had never dwelled on it until then. Just like that a spark was lit and was only pushed further with the help of films, Jurassic Park being the most notable. Unten knew from then that he wanted to make something like Jurassic Park.

RTN – Kate Micucci

Kate Micucci

Kate Micucci is an actress, songwriter, and comedian who has carved her own unique path in the creative field. She has had recurring roles in shows like the Big Bang Theory and is one half of the comedy-folk duo, Garfunkel and Oates. Micucci is a self-described risk taker and big proponent of allowing her gut feelings and passions to guide her in her career.

P3 RTN: Rex Grignon 

Rex Grignon initially was studying and planning on being a civil engineer throughout high school, but due to several different opportunities, he went to film school, then created a demo animation, and found his 'this is it' job working with computer animation and character design for PDI/Dreamwork's, and has done work with Pixar as well. He has now been the Head of Character Design for PDI/Dreamwork's for over ten years.

Roadtrip Nation – A Director

I chose to report on Gina Prince-Bythewood, a director who has worked on a variety of projects. She stood out to me for her decision to appeal her denial from film school, which I wasn’t really aware was something that could be done!

Christian Troy.

Christian Troy is the executive-director of Waves for Water, an international NGO working to bring clean drinking water developing countries and other places worldwide after natural disasters. In his own words he says,

“traveling, surfing, storytelling, I love that component of it. Politics, dealing with governments and the culture of politics in these places. And helping people. This job is tailored to the greatest things that I can do on a daily basis.”

Troy’s career path is an illustration that there is a myriad and multiplicity of ways we can use our creativity altruistically on this small planet we call home.

Mauricio Abril – Illustrator

For my Roadtrip Nation Report, I chose Mauricio Abril. He is an illustrator/concept artist, and has found work at Walt Disney Imagineering. He didn’t initially choose to pursue a career in art, but his interests are what led him there.
