Growing up in the birth of the internet era, I was able to see some of the real “YouTube” talent flourish years before the website became a household name. When my interests arose in comedy, there was one man who was similar to me in so many aspects, I couldn’t help but become a fan of his work. It has been fantastic to watch him explode into underground fame under his production company:
This man is James Rolfe. Better known as the “Angry Video Game Nerd”.
He spent a good majority of his life studying film and editing, he began his website and production company “Cinemassacre” in his late teens, early twenties where at first it was his hobby of creating low budget films and short review skits.
He took a larger fame when his character “The Angry Video Game Nerd” exploded into the YouTube scene, and completely by accident.
He was originally just testing his new editing and voice-over work in a satirical skit where he reviews terrible retro video games and accessories. It blew up, and now not only does it have over 200 episodes and millions of subscribers, but a full-length feature film was made and available to purchase.
His content extends further past his AVGN character, Rolfes official website and YouTube account now produces various shows that range from short films, skits and informative reviews.
We have similar passion and history, I have followed his progress for over ten years now and hope that someday we could meet and I could thank him for the inspiration he has given me to continue pursuing media arts.
