Corvallis Non-Credit EMT Winter 2025

We generally only offer an EMT training in Corvallis during the winter term. Sign up for the email list below to get notifications with dates and application information is posted usually during the summer months. Applications will close in October to allow for an early orientation so students can have the necessary time to prepare before the training starts.

This class is offered in the Corvallis area to better serve local communities with trained EMTs at the rural agencies, for this reason preference is given to students affiliated with an agency.

Corvallis Non-Credit EMT Winter 2025

Training Dates:

Mandatory Orientation: November 6th, 2024 at 6:00 P.M.

Estimated date range: January 6, 2025 – March 21, 2025

Specific Class Meetings:

Monday and Thursday, 6:00 P.M. – 10:00 P.M. (1800-2200)
Saturdays, 8:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. (0800-1400)
Additional 16 hours MANDATORY lab time at Lane Community College – Main Campus

Payment for tuition fee will be due in full at the time of registration.

If you are being sponsored by an agency, and they are paying for your training directly (not reimbursing you after completion) they will need to email EMS@lanecc.edu to request an invoice.

Fees:

Fee Estimations (subject to changes)

Tuition $2,750 – includes course fees, uniform, and class materials/supplies
Immunization and Compliance Requirement Database)
- $115 – includes processing and storage of requirement documentation, background check, and urinalysis
- These are mandatory for hospital clinical time, field internship, and to perform invasive procedures in class.
State Certification Application (payable to the State of Oregon) – $110
National Registry of EMT’s (NREMT) Application/Testing Fee (payable to NREMT)- $80
Text Books (see descriptions below):

- Anatomy and Physiology – ~Various Costs – the requirement is for the student to have access to anatomy and physiology books/resources, but there is flexibility in what the student obtains. It would be reasonable for a student to buy a used set of books for under $10.
We have listed fees here to help students plan. Be aware that minor cost adjustments or possible new State fees may be required. We reserve the right to make these adjustments and this information sheet should not be considered a contract.

What to Expect

The EMT class is a very intense but rewarding course. This course requires quite a bit of commitment and study. We have very high expectations of both student preparedness and performance. We are looking for candidates that are ready and willing to give their full attention to their study of EMS. There will be a significant amount of reading and homework throughout this course. You should plan to spend several hours a week studying and perfecting your skills. Though this will have an impact on your daily life, it can be accomplished even if you work and/or have a family, as long as you plan your study time well (i.e. a little bit of quality study per day). This course is designed to move quickly. It is important for students to keep up with the material. Falling behind will make it impossible to successfully pass the class.

Clinical and Internship:

Students will complete both clinical rotations at a hospital and a field internship with an agency. These will be set up through the class. Students may not attempt to set up their own time. Students will have specific objectives to meet at each of the settings. Skills will be documented and preceptors will give evaluations on student performance. Further details will be discussed in class.

Final Thoughts:

The EMT course is a significant investment in your EMS/Fire career and knowledge. We teach this course with the goal of trying to ensure the EMT is properly trained and ready to deliver high quality care to a patient, with confidence, effectiveness, efficiency, and compassion; and to ensure the EMT student understands and possesses the tools to work as an EMT.

The previously outlined information should help you to understand what I expect out of my students, and what you should be able to expect out of the class. Once you commit to this experience, be prepared for hard work, quality study, and (yes) quite a bit of fun learning and experiencing this side of EMS.
