Please do not allow students to use their own scratch paper for SONGER’s exam

GIS 151 online exams for SONGER

There are 12 students in SONGER’s online section of GIS 151.

These exams include many short answer/essay questions, so be sure to remind students that they can save periodically and then navigate back to the exam after each essay.

Students should use our scratch paper, topo maps (this is 2 sided), simple calculators and paper strips, which they need to hand in at the end of the exam. These are located on the side of the large file cabinet in the checkin area.

Tell students there are 2 sides to the topo maps.  Also, we do only have 3 copies currently of the maps.

You can have these students test in CENTER 311B–computers 1-4. These have upgraded Mac Operating systems on them.

Testing Computers in CENTER 307

I am re-posting this because the previous post had a typo in it:

This testing room in CENTER 307 now has 25 testing computers we can use if CENTER 304 is full.

The staff computer in CENTER 307 can control the testing computers in that room–they are not set up yet to be controlled from the 3 staff stations in the checkin area.

If you seat someone in CENTER 307, then there should be a proctor in that room, or seat them where you can view them on the camera and do a periodic walk through. You would most likely walk a student into this room and have them log in to the MOODLE exam directly.

Please let me know if you successfully use these computers for testing and if there are any issues that arise.

Broderick’s HST 203 exams

These are still written exams.

The Instructor is allowing students to use a note card, starting this term.

Ask students when you check them in if they have a notecard and then paperclip them to the exams when students hand them in.

CENTER 311B should now be set up for essay exams…

Students can request to take any exam–multiple choice or essay–in the small “reduced distraction” room.  IT upgraded the operating system so we should not have the issue of the cursor jumping anymore on essay exams.

Staff Station #2

There is an owl icon in the dock (bottom of the screen) on Staff Station #2.  This is the Faronics Insight classroom management trail, that I was testing out over the break.  Please do not delete it.

Thanks!

Thanks for your help Winter Term!

You checked in and proctored 2,358 exams Winter Term!!!

Have a great Break!

REMINDER: Make sure students have logged out of MOODLE when they are done testing

Today a student was logged in to computer #8 for a Final Exam and another student had completed an Extra Credit Exam on computer #18.  The student on #18 had just left as the student who was supposed to test on #8 was checking in. Instead of going to computer #8, this student went and sat at computer #18 and logged herself into the FINAL UNDER THE OTHER USER’s NAME!

This is actually a way that students could try to cheat if they planned this ahead of time.  I do not know if this was the intent in this instance, but it is a reminder for why we need to be on top of making sure students are logged out when they leave and then LOCK that station as soon as possible.

I realize that this is harder to do when it is as busy as it tends to be FINALS WEEK, and I appreciate your quick ability to problem solve!

I was able to contact the Instructor and he was able to print a copy of the exam and delete the attempt.  Otherwise, the student who was on #18 would have come in to take the Final and it would have shown that he already had taken the exam.

Thanks for your attention to this issue!
