Having posed the question to several French friends regarding how many weeks of vacation the French are allowed each year, the most common response was the same. Typically, if one has worked for an employer the required amount of time, French employees are given five weeks of paid vacation annually. In addition, my friend Djhad said he has worked for Xerox for so long that he is allowed far more days off than the average French worker. In conclusion, I have decided that the easiest way to pose the vacation question to the French would be to simply ask “How many days per year do you actually work?” Of course, that question is suggested with tongue in cheek. I would never really ask it!
