All Banner INB users

Banner 9 Timeline:

  • Aug 27, 2018 Go live with all Banner Student modules
  • Sept 4, 2018 Go live with all Banner Financial Aid modules
  • Oct 29, 2018 Go live with all Banner HR and Finance modules

A few things in Banner 9 to remember:

  1. Use Chrome, Firefox, or Safari and not Internet Explorer as your browser. Banner 9 does not need Java.
  2. Use your Lnumber and myLane password, NOT your INB (Internet Native Banner) username and password to login to Banner 9.
  3. If you are logged into Banner 9 after a certain period of time of inactivity (2 hours), you will be logged off. This is a common security feature of modern applications, to prevent others from accessing your account.
  4. For AppXtender/Banner Documents users only:
    1. When entering Xtender from Banner 9 you may run into a popup blocker message. Please select allow popups from this domain.
    2. When the Xtender login screen appears you will have to use your INB username and password, NOT your Lnumber to login. This will probably change in the future, when single sign-on is activated.
  5. The initial loading of a form in Banner 9 takes longer. You might want to load the forms you plan to use each day when you first login so you don’t have to wait later.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Why are we switching to Banner 9?
    • Ellucian will no longer be supporting Banner 8 INB beginning on December 31st.
    • INB requires Internet Explorer and certain older versions of Java to run. Ellucian had to upgrade their product to support more modern browsers and break away from relying on Java.
    • INB relies on a technology called Oracle Forms, which is obsolete and no longer supported by Oracle. Banner 9 no longer uses Oracle Forms.
  • Why are we switching now?
    • We wanted to go live just prior to the rush of Fall quarter start so that people could use it, and learn it .
    • Schools around the world will have to switch to Banner 9, we want to discover any problems early so we can get help prior to the December 31st deadline. We anticipate a number of schools will be switching over just prior to the deadline and Ellucian will be scrambling to assist them and may be slow to respond to our questions in the future.
  • When will Financial Aid, HR, and Finance be switching to Banner 9?
    • Your Data Custodians have picked these dates:
      • Financial Aid: September 4th, 2018
      • HR and Finance: October 29th, 2018
  • Can’t non-student module users switch earlier to Banner 9?
    • Yes, from an IT standpoint, we are ready now. Talk to your data custodian and work out an earlier date for your module if you want.
  • How can I learn more about Banner 9?
    • Contact your data custodians, or refer to links on the email sent on August 9th at 4:38pm to all managers, and INB users.
  • Will Banner 9 ever be as fast as INB?
    • Probably not everywhere. There are some features in banner 8 INB that were optimized for data entry. Learning Banner 9 is much easier than learning INB, but a power user in INB will probably be a little faster performing certain tasks than a power user in Banner 9. However, when the Banner 9 student and advisor profiles and additional Banner 9 SSB modules come out we expect considerable productivity increases.
