About Me!

Wow! Where to begin? I’m studying to be an animator for one, I’m an avid gamer geek trying to tell his story and leave his mark on the world. I love to design random characters and monsters too! My biggest dream is to make my own project a reality, and I’ll follow that dream until it becomes true! That’s about it i think, have fun on my blog and expect frequent updates and concept art for my project!

Thanks, Dakota

All about me!

I have always been into action sports! For a girl, that’s not exactly the sports path that people would expect. I’ve been skateboarding since I was four, and have skateboarded alongside some of the best skateboarders in history! (Bob Burnquist, Tony Hawk, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, etc.) I wasn’t competing against them but before I moved away from San Diego, I was doing the same sized half pipes as them and skating with them almost every time I went to the local park with an X-Games ramp. After moving from San Diego to Bend, I found that my style of skateboarding was hard to continue with the resources available to me. Then, I was introduced to snowboarding. Ooooh boy, let me tell you, I love snowboarding! It’s my favorite thing to do. Although I’m not able to do it year-round I’m always training for it! One thing I’ve always dreamed about doing is making videos for snowboarding! I own a GoPro so I’m always out filming my friends and I, but have never been the best at editing my videos. in this class, that’s what I’m hoping to learn! Maybe we won’t go into detail about that type of thing in the class, but at least taking this class will give me a better idea of if a Media Arts career is something I’d like to pursue! Whatever I do, I hope that I am working to help better the lives of other female action sports athletes. Whether media arts can get me to where I want to be with my career or not is what I hope to find out in this class, and even if it can’t I’m excited to broaden my horizon on what I already consider to be decent technology skills.

Stories we tell ourselves about ourselves….

One explanation of thick description…Clifford Geertz –from Interpretations of Culture

….is a quote borrowed liberally and literally from Clifford Geertz (The Interpretations of Culture 1973).  The quote, of course, is a layer among many in a very thick description. As an ethnographer, I have never strayed far from Geertz’s foundation that storytelling, that interpretation or explanation of one’s world–the search for meaning–creates a public document of a public act. In a multimediated world, that quest for meaning and the subsequent creation of a public document takes on exponentially more expressions and meanings. Regardless of form, a story cannot exist in a vacuum; an audience is a fundamental component which, by tacit or expressed agreement, perpetuates the process of interpretation and retelling. Seeking the process is not necessarily the same path as seeking the truth.

Hello my friends!

My name is Jose Theragood. I am 33 years of age and am of a multi-racial background. I am from Santa Fe, New Mexico. I served 8 years off and on as a medic for the National Guard and Active Duty Army. I now have a chance to be part of a peaceful community and look forward to being a productive member. I am an avid martial theorist/artist. I am a certified chef and hope to open an Ethiopian inspired cafe of my own one day. People never really make the link between a successful business and how much easier it is with an understanding of multimedia arts. I hope to be able to have more creative control over my advertisements and in store media as well. I hope to reach a wider audience through multimedia facets and hope that people will enjoy what I have to offer.

A Wonderful Week

Words carry weight. They can make or break your day, or impart you onto a dream wonder filled world of fantasy just by the artist’s twist of a phrase. So, as I believe in we are what we believe and that positive thought is as powerful as physical action. I  am writing a wonderful week for myself and for you, my dear readers!

What got me thinking about having a good start to the week actually came to me at the end of the day. Today, on my way home I saw this guy fly fishing and thought, “hmm, that’s interesting,” as I drove over the bridge heading home from a long day of learning.

I drove on toward home when that ‘ol photographer urge” caught me and made me turn all the way around and go back to the boat dock under the bridge to find this fly fisherman.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, went and had to walk way out on a marsh to shoot, but this is what I got. What’dya think?

I’m glad now, I went back. It made me think of taking it slower and better learning the little intricacies of this art thing to develop my own technique, so I can be as precise as this fisherman with aiming that little fly.

Personal Blog – About Me

Hello! My name is Laura Hale and I’m a student here at LCC. I’m studying to get my associates in Multimedia. My interests include writing, audio production, film and voice acting. I actually began this degree about four years ago but decided that I did not want to start pulling out loans when the economy in Oregon crashed especially for young people straight out of high school. So I decided to obtain a scholarship and life experience through the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, I learned to work as a team with other people striving for a goal. I was even given opportunity to lead my peers as my skills increased and my confidence became more apparent. I am happy to put these new experiences to good use in the field of media once I graduate in a couple of years.

My main goal is to become apart of a movie or TV production team, or a sound engineer for cartoons. I believe in learning the what makes a machine tick or in this case, the production of images and video. My absolute dream is to be a voice actor for a children’s cartoon some day, I recall my childhood heroes that pulled me through troubled times and I decided somewhere along the way, I wanted to be one of those heroes. I look forward to expanding my skills with the teachers and other students, also learning more about the media world. Story telling has been my joy since I was able to hold a pen.

My journey to the virtual world

My name is Shane Boss.  My passion has always been art and creativity.  I get a sense of satisfaction out of expressing my thoughts, feelings and mind through art of all kinds.  My journey started when I first picked up a pencil and tried to replicate different characters I saw on television or in the movies.  Over the years I would journey into other fields like painting and sculpting.  Once I discovered the ability to draw on a computer I had begun a whole new interest in digital media.  As a kid, we never owned a computer at my house, but I had a friend who owned one and I remember always bugging him to get on and just start drawing pictures.  In high school, I was always found in the media center drawing on the computer, usually it was old classic cars of all different colors.

When I got older, I finally built my first computer and started exploring different programs like Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw, 3D Studio Max and Sketch Up.  After quite a bit of learning the use of these tools I was indulging myself in, I realized that I could use these tools and skills to mod for various video games I had been playing.  I had the ability to create my own levels and game content, 3D models/maps etc.  I would post them for download for the community to enjoy, which was a sense of satisfaction in it’s own.  Other people playing and enjoying levels that I had created.  I even entered a level creation contest for a particular game and got a lot of really good feedback.

This whole, complete journey led me to the drive to get into school and earn a degree and open the doors to finding a career that enables me to live my passion and be a part of something I enjoy.  I want to be able to get up in the morning and look forward to going to work, actually be excited for it.  I want to go home and think about projects I am working on and be eager to go back in the following work day and continue it.  Creating art for other people to enjoy is a payday in itself.  So here I am, this is my story.  Achieving my goals and chasing what I love.
