Campus resources

I was trying to bring awareness to three campus resources with this project. They are the food pantry, clothing stash and the snack shack. The food pantry gives free food to all lane students with a busy Thursday. (restocking/lots of people) the clothing stash gives free clothing to students for up to 5 items per student per week. The clothing stash is at the basement of center building. The snack shack sells snacks and drinks at a decent price. The snack shack and the food pantry are in building 1 room 201. These three resources can make someone’s day when money is a little tight or even more affordable in price for a lot of students. I believe every student should know about these three resources as soon as possible so they can utilize them a lot sooner instead of stressing on clothing or food. The snack shack offers free coffee on opening week, Wednesday’s and finals week. Its something for the students who drink coffee or need the coffee.(hahaha) I have known these resources for along time and find them very useful and a great set of people that work at these places. These jobs are held by work-studies which they work to earn money (in financial aid package) instead of taking loans.

Informational interview

For the X-4 assignment, I interviewed by phone Kyle Seidlitz a web master for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. The interview was short because of his work. (5 min long) I asked him about his education and how it effects his calling within the church as a webmaster. Kyle responded by saying, “Having a college degree in web authoring and computer science helps as well.”

I asked him what does he do on the church’s website and how long does it take him to accomplish his work he does every day/every other day. Kyle said, “I help maintain the website with other web masters from different wards and aids with online tithing and processing it for the church.”(There is a lot).

The third question I asked him was “how does a web master help the church other than online tithing offerings?” He responded by saying,” I help maintain the site as well as post talks/information and dates/locations of events the church is holding.”

The last question I had was how does media play a role in the within the church? Kyle stated that he was short on time but he answered the question. He said, “It helps to get information about who we are as well as cover a wide array of topics ranging from basic scripture study to the path on becoming a member and staff directory. Media also spans beyond the internet. There is television and radio which is used for trying to reach people and get them to come to church. If people have questions they can refer to the site or set up an appointment with the missionaries to have some questions or they can come on Sunday and talk with the bishop after the service. God bless.”

In my experience with media/computers (personal/LCC) setting up and maintaining websites takes a lot of work when done by hand. Nowadays there are sites that will allow you to build it much easier than hand coding HTML/CSS/JavaScripting which can take weeks if not more plus the education on what and how to write is enough give a person not versed in computer language a whopper of a headache.

In summary education in computers seems to be a large portion of a lot of media and other subjects. Attending the Sunday service and talking with Kyle allowed me to have a different perspective for webmasters by asking questions I myself, wanted to know. However due to a short time talking I could not get all my questions answered within the allotted timeframe. Thirst for learning a complex subject takes time, dedication and faith in all you do and all you interact with is all you need to succeed. I also learned now in the age of technology churches are using media across multiple platforms to reach everyone and every age etc.….

Media impacts a lot of what we do today as well as influence target groups that the media is meant for across most platforms that are needed to reach the target audience.

My 5 furry friends common fight

My furry friends’ short silent movie is funny in a way. I was trying

to accomplish a short story about 4 cats and a dog with a common interest, milk. I found out animals are hard to take pictures of because they listen worse than a 4year old. Luckily, I got them in a good mood and in a restful state. The 5 animals are all friends of mine with a unique personality each. I had some major setbacks with importing sound and the free trial is more current than what is in the classrooms/labs. Sadly, I ran out of time to recreate the project, so I had to export as is. The featured friends are: Aeowen, Panda, Peaches, King and Moonshine. Moonshine is the matriarch of all the cats at my house and she had her 21st birthday yesterday 11/05/2017. She is a joy to have around and still full of life. These animals are great to work with and talk to. King is a rescue from Greenhill. He always is up for a run weather we take him, or he decides to take himself. This project was a little daunting and I still worry about my grade due to technical difficulty. Overall, I hope you enjoy the film.

Cold and Flu

Snapshot_20171003_3

For this assignment I am trying to raise awareness to the cold and flu season that is about to hit. In the message I offer simple steps on how to not spread the flu to everyone regardless of where you are at. I believe safety measures should be taken so we don’t end up missing work or class due to a simple bug. I had some fun tinkering with new software as I like to learn different software to add to my bag of tricks I have acquired over the years. The most difficult part of the assignment was getting peace and quiet from roommates and neighbors. What a spendy day. It cost me 2 trips to Papas Pizza and a beer to attain the quietness I needed to complete this project. The fun part was arranging the audio and sound effects……. Hopefully I didn’t overdo it like I tend to do on fun projects. I hope the message I have tried to convey in this project has been useful. i have been hospitalized due to the flu and I don’t want to see anyone end up there when it can be prevented by simple means. Thankyou all hope you have a good weekend.

https://pegfitzpatrick.com/blog/

This is a main blogsite with sub-sites on various social media and how to’s. Example:” Pinterest says the maximum number of hashtags you can use is twenty. The number of hashtags isn’t the most important piece – it’s more important that you choose relevant, on-topic hashtags for your content. Don’t just add twenty because they recommend it. I’m going to test four – five hashtags on my pins.”- Peg Fitzpatrick

She has many more subjects. However, you must be a member to post to this blog which stinks. The information I got from the site helps me with some questions I have on social media. There are even tutorials on a video feed that explains each step in the social media arena. I, personally am resistant to social media, but this site address some of my fears and I might consider trying Pinterest as my first social media outing. A fear is my ex’s finding me and trashing my reputation on a social media site and hindering my chances for a job since most employers check that stuff now a days. It is a constant fear of what they might say out of spite. So careful monitoring of your name on social media might protect you down the road and save you a disappointment down the road at a job interview.

About Me

Snapshot_20171003_3

Me, Family and Friends

I am a cat/dog lover (mine only) and own 2 dogs and 4 cats. The pets are my friends and help me when I get upset with things. I am an easy going person most of the time. I find the time here at lane fun, but stressful from time to time. Some classes were the best classes CIS 101 and 102. With what I learned from these classes I have been able to track down hackers that have hacked my computer by obtaining the IP address from the security logs my computer records and reporting it to the authorities. I enjoy time with my family especially my nieces and nephew. I enjoy video games (Skyrim (PS3) and Summoners War (android Tablet) and time with the family doing arts and crafts as well as cooking together. My eldest niece Sabyn is quiet the cook. We cook a lot of desserts and sometimes dinner as a team. I also like to connect with my instructors here at Lane Community College; it helps smooths things when I need to see them in their offices. They are always willing to help and work with me on difficult projects/concerns. When I am done getting my degree I plan to work for a gaming company/theme park in the advertisement department. I have always wanted to work at a theme park since I was 7 and went to Disneyland for my birthday. Something there calmed me and wanted to return since.- Jeremie Balek
