F18-P6 Final Project- Day Of The Duck

Since the day they arrived these ducks lived their daily lives very interestingly and I just had to do something with them. This also probably my payback towards them because they always poop in my garage and my car sometimes.

What has kept me drawn towards them was their abnormal life. The ducks don’t really quack like the ducks you find at ponds, these ducks just start panting and shaking their tales like dogs. Doing a little more research on the ducks they are Muscovy ducks that migrate from South America and some Mexican wetlands. The Muscovy population are also protected by the U.S.F.W.S, The United States Fish and Wildlife Services. This means there could be consequences with the law when killing these ducks. Theses ducks not only are very unique in the sense that they do not always house in nearby ponds because they can be domesticated in forest and suburban areas. Muscovy ducks are omnivores they eat worms, corn, leaves, small fish and small reptiles. If you ever come across one of these particular ducks beware that they are not your typical little puppy you could cuddle with. Males tend to be more aggressive than females but they will hiss at you depending how close you get to them and will sometimes bite at you if they feel threatened. They can tolerate very cold weather and place themselves in wet areas where rain is present.

Not everyone has the joy of having neighborhood ducks but I hope my video will provide a hilarious experience.  Hopefully when you are confronted by these ducks this blog will give something to remember them by.

F18-P5 Image editing

My image editing is about my fun loyal dog Goofy! He is a black lab mix with a Boston terrier, Born May 29th 2013 he is currently five years old but still has so much energy! Goofy has always been a fun dog to get along with because even outside all of that crazy energy he is sweet and empathetic enough to help with this video. He has always been a very easy dog to train, every time I get a doggy treat his instant reaction is to shake or jump to just get the treat.

The reason why I filmed Goofy was to challenge myself filming animals is usually challenging with motion. To go even further sometimes it’s hard just to get them to do what you want. A lot of what I did with Goofy in the video had been done before for fun but really taking that next step filming him was like all that training just came to use. Some of the best moments during the shoot was just how quiet the area was during the beginning and during the last video all of the sudden there was a bunch of background noise I had to cut. I really thought it was going to be a little more difficult before I started shooting even knowing Goofy was trained. He is a dog with so much energy he can find it hard to follow directions at times.

Something I really take away from this project is being able to turn an every day thing you do for fun into something you want to express to others so its really great. I really hope you guys enjoy Goofy making a fool out of himself.

F18-EX 4: Don Ross Productions

20181025_152833

People may think talent comes natural or a blown up youtube video. Well thats not quite true especially from a man who has a lot of success from playing in multiple bands. “Talent is not always a substitute for competency” said Don Ross.  Thirty years of true success come from mindfully adapting to what we aren’t afraid of trying out.

Don Ross began working with digital audio work ( also known as D.A.W) since he was 28 years old. When Don began attending the University of a Oregon he planned to pursue political science and attend Law school, however he came to realize he wanted to walk his path of passion in music. Strolling patient, and humbly he came across bands with commitment to get somewhere. One of his most recognizable bands he was in was “Classical Gas” an Oregon gold record winning band. Having being involved with bands branched his connections  with sound engineers doing some small things in audio production in 1988. Pro tools had not existed during this a time making audio recording more difficult. Don himself described the evolution of audio workstations. Before he a had record on record tapes because a audio would get lost and is not secured like today. Getting used to new technology was also a joy for Don he would talk about how it can be a frustrating in the beginning but In the end its a masterpiece.

Don has always been patient with his work which I noted most because having a particular work method is key to sound engineering. His work setting is very quiet allowing great acoustics within the room he is able to hear his work perfectly clear and colorful. Every sound panel is pure muscle memory watching him work on projects while meeting deadlines. His structure is to always have projects done a day before the due date. This allows him to revise audio sequences thoroughly.

Music tends to be like a tree to Don. One must be wiling to grow new branches and explore what they may be like. I asked Mr.Ross what does he like to listen more of ? but there is not one in particular because as a sound engineer you have to be open to what clients are looking for. I personally figured he likes more blues and country just because it was discussed more. Another part of that question I asked him was what tune or note has made you feel like this is true music talent? He responded by saying it’s a lot abut alignment. Finding a pattern with the lyrics and the message being delivered in the song. Don does not like high pitch voices or sound because they tend to intervene sometimes. Now this does not mean he doesn’t like a higher notes in music all the time, he prefers to hear the color in music. Instruments that don specializes in is guitar, bass and working with sound boards he can play some keyboard.

Don has been an astonishing asset to music mentoring young musicians and really satisfying clients in his own production studio. One of his most amazing clients we discussed of was Octavio  Solis hispanic playwright who also voiced in the movie “Coco.” having clients in Pixar, Netflix, Warner Bros,  and Fox! are outstanding clients Don has worked with. Don has demonstrated that dedication and humble commitment achieve success.

F18-P4 Audio: Pandas not…….

You in for a laugh? watch my embarrassing freshman year story about high school theater! Just before you judge my picture I love pandas a lot and have nothing against them the picture is a symbol of my story. I had a lot of fun finding effects to my audio gathering ideas from radio stations. Being able to create my own project was a really fun  experience to express myself not just on stage but behind a microphone now which, I could get used to.

All my effects were found on freesound.org this includes the ironical drum beat, The electronic baby laugh, and the school hallway. The story itself was done in two different takes using my own speaker and mic plugged to my computer.

How did I bring this embarrassing story from a long time ago you may ask? I was listening to a lot of comical podcasts recently. It was very surprising remembering that sometimes that comedians are open about sharing their own embarrassing stories really  get the best laugh out of the audience.  So knowing that boosted my confidence to share something very immature and embarrassing from high school because there is not a better time to show off yourself going through puberty than high school.

Republic records produces music from various artist you hear on the radio everyday. Artist ranging from the Weeknd, Arianna Grande, Drake, Nicki Minaj and More. Not only do they produce music but they also produce sound tracks for films. Movies like pitch perfect, hunger games, and the fifty shades of grey trilogy.

The reason why I love this site is because it informs you of new releases from your favorite artist when youtube is not available. Republic records also branches out to several other sites including the whale report which allows you to read how was the artist album and where they recorded music.

For people who are always curios about how music gets put on the radio this is the beginning, Republic Records is a start.

Screen Shot 2018-10-15 at 11.37.37 AM  “Able Tesfaye (The Weeknd) with  his “starboy” album at Republic Records.” several artist use republic records as their label and make it on the “billboard hot 100” as top artist producing music. The site is also convenient when it comes to finding artist on tour and buying tickets for concerts.

Once you have created an account with Republic Records and subscribe to their sight it will keep you updated on when your favorite artist may come around your town. Another thing you may do once you’ve created an account you can blog on their site commenting on new song releases. The site also provides merchandise sales from their label including hats, t-shirts, and hoodies. I chose Republic Records because I love knowing when my favorite artist come out with new music and commenting what it feels like.

Hola

My name is Alberto, I grew up in cottage grove and graduated  at Cottage grove high school. I grew up in a hispanic household who are obsessed with waterfalls as you can tell in the picture below. I love theatre and was involved in various productions in high school. I love being on stage creating scenes. Having countless decisions on how to  finesse imagery within a scene is a lot of fun. This is my first year In the media arts program. Having the ability to know media design will help me work in future productions later in life. Knowing how to work behind the camera and in front of my camera is my goal.
