Communication

Does the current governance system support information sharing broadly across stakeholders? How should the governance system communicate to the college community?   Please elaborate.

    From Spring Conference:
No. We can’t communicate effectively if the structures don’t exist or we don’t know where to go for information..

We need consistent, clear, pervasive communication.

    How should the systems communicate?:
Decide on one channel and be consistent.

    From Spring Conference:

There is no on-boarding communication about the governance system.

Each council should provide a monthly update with summaries and links to additional information.
Each council should publish its work plan annually, and publish agendas at least one week in advance of meetings.

    No.
Councils are isolationist, self-contained, and not good at external communication
Agendas are not published; there is no place for larger community to suggest agenda items
There is an assumption that stakeholder representatives are communicating with their constituencies; this largely isn’t happening
Faculty council is most effective in communications

    No.
    Communication should be integrated
Lack of reciprocity and iterative conversations with and from governance
Need support from institution for faculty and staff to participate: Is this a symptom of apathy or is it not received or perceived as meaningful work by faculty/staff and managers
Currently operates as an input-only model
Communication will improve when governance improves
Suppression of communication comes from the top down

To facilitate cross council collaboration and communication, could college council be populated with representatives from each of the other councils?
